What is the usage of ink in inkjet printers?

Ink is used in a number of ways throughout the inkjet printing process. In general, ink in an ink cartridge is used for printing documents, photographs and other such materials. Some ink, however, must be used to maintain the health of the print head; some ink is residual; and some ink evaporates.
The big printer manufacturers have reduced the amount of ink in a cartridge, encrypted the chip technology, and used aggressive marketing tactics to discourage refills.
It allows users to wirelessly print professional color documents for up to 50 percent less cost per page and energy use than competitive laser printers
The inkjet cartridges can be divided into two categories. Firstly the cartridges which are manufactured by printer manufacturers, these are called genuine inkjet cartridges. Secondly, those cartridges which are refilled to be used again are known as Refilled cartridges.

There are really five main characteristics to consider when selecting inkjet paper for a project:

Weight
Paper weight refers to the weight of a 500-sheet ream of 17" x 22" paper. Each of these sheets is equivalent to four letter size sheets.

Brightness
Paper brightness affects the images printed on the paper, especially the vibrancy of the colors.

Finish
Inkjet photo paper comes in various finishes.

Opacity
This is especially important for double-sided printing.

Caliper
Typical inkjet paper caliper may be anywhere from a thin 4.3 mil to a thick 10.4 mil paper.

Inkjet printers started out as the low-cost alternative to laser printers, providing a less refined finished page but at a much better cost, and often as a color alternative in the days when all laser printers were monochrome.
The printer comes with a five-color ink system that includes four dye-based inks based on Canon's claimed 300-year color permanence.
Paper passes under the print nozzles in one swift pass, similar to how pages pass over the print drum on laser devices, resulting in laser-like speeds from an inkjet machine.
ink probably never even makes it onto printed pages. Instead, it's used to clean print heads and for other maintenance chores, typically when the printer is preparing to print after sitting idle for some time. Several models that were fine performers were also among the stingiest with ink used for maintenance.
Leaving the printer on all the time avoids triggering a maintenance cycle each time you use the printer. When we did that with some of the most ink-hogging models, it did noticeably reduce ink consumption.
